The historic seat of the Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County government, the City and County Building was built in 1894. In 1986, the County offices were moved to the County Government Center. The building continues to house several City offices, including that of the mayor’s. The grounds upon which the City and County Building are located are commonly referred to as Washington Square. The square is a popular venue for a variety of local festivals and events.
