In 1961, Murphy Oil purchased the already established Ingram Oil Refinery located in Meraux, LA (near Chalmette, LA).  The facility was greatly impacted by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 which resulted in an oil spill that affected the nearby community.  In 2011, Murphy Oil ceased its refinery operations and sold the Meraux refinery to Valero Energy Corporation.

Previously owned by Ingram Oil & Refinery, Murphy Oil purchased the Meraux refinery in 1961 and continued operations until 2011 when the refinery was purchased by Valero Energy Corporation.  In 2005, the refinery was damaged during Hurricane Katrina resulting in an oil spill which impacted the nearby community.  In 2011, the refinery had a capacity of 135,000 barrels per day.
