Originally owned and operated by Hooker Chemicals, the Occidental Chemical Plant (a/k/a OxyChem Taft Plant) began operating in 1966. Occidental Petroleum Corporation purchased the plant in 1968 and is still in operation. Products manufactured at the site include chlorine, caustic soda, and sodium chlorate.

Located in St. Charles Parish, the Taft plant began operating in 1966 and was originally owned by Hooker Chemicals. In 1968, Occidental Chemical Corporation purchased the plant and, in 1982, Occidental changed the name of its chemical operations to OxyChem. Due to its location between Taft and Hahnville, the address of the facility may be listed in either Taft or Hahnville. Located west of the Mississippi River, the plant is also near Occidental’s other facility located on the east side of the river in Convent, LA. The plant manufactures a variety of chemicals, including chlorine, caustic soda and sodium chlorate.
