National Gypsum Company (NGC) was founded in 1925.  In the 1950s, NGC began operating a facility in Westwego, LA, which at times was named Gold Bond Building Products.  NGC manufactures wallboard and wallboard related products.

Near New Orleans, NGC constructed and began operating their Gold Bond Building Products facility in the 1950s.  In 1990, the company entered Chapter 11 in response to litigation related to asbestos exposure from NGC’s products.  NGC emerged from bankruptcy in 1993 and was renamed the “New” National Gypsum Company.  NGC continues manufacturing gypsum board at the Westwego facility.
