Since 1909, the Domino Sugar Mill has been operating its refinery near Chalmette, LA.  Deemed to be the largest sugar refinery in the Western Hemisphere in 2012, the refinery produces about 19% of the country’s cane sugar.  The refinery employs nearly 400 workers.

Located on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River between the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans and Chalmette, LA, the Domino Sugar Mill has long been a significant landmark and employer for the Greater New Orleans metropolitan area.  

Domino Sugar began operating its mill in 1909 and has become one of the largest sugar refineries in the Western Hemisphere.  Employing as many as 400 workers, the mill processes almost 60 percent of raw sugar produced in Louisiana.
