In 1975, Louisiana Light & Power (now Entergy Louisiana) constructed their Waterford I and II natural gas- and oil-fired units on the former Waterford Plantation. In 1985, the 1,152-megawatt nuclear power station, Waterford III, began to operate. Still in operation, the Waterford III unit employs approximately 650 workers.

In 1963, Louisiana Light & Power purchased the Waterford Plantation property where, over time, they constructed three power generating units, beginning in 1975. The first two units were the natural gas- and oil-fired units named Waterford I and II. Later, in 1985, Waterford III was became operational. The Waterford III unit is a 1,152-megawatt pressurized water reactor plant and employs several hundreds of workers. As of 2014, all three units are listed as being among the top ten largest plants by generation capacity in the state of Louisiana.
