Rubicon, a joint venture between ICI and Uniroyal (now Chemtura Corporation), began operation in Geismar, LA, in 1966.  In 1999, Huntsman International LLC acquired ICI and its portion of ownership of Rubicon.  The plant produces a variety of chemicals, including methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), polyols, maleic anhydride, nitrobenzene and aniline.  The plant is still in operation and employs around 400 workers and over 200 contractors.

The Rubicon chemical plant in Geismar, LA, was initially created as a joint venture between ICI and Uniroyal (now Chemtura Corporation) in 1966.  Later, in 1999, Huntsman International acquired the ICI polyurethanes business as well as its portion of ownership of the Rubicon joint venture.  The Rubicon chemical plant is now a joint venture between Huntsman and Chemtura.  

Over the years, the variety of chemicals produced at the plant has increased.  Initially, in 1966, the facility produced aniline, toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and diphenylamine (DPA).  In 1972, methylene diphenyl isocyanate (MDI) was added to the facility’s products.  The plant has continued to expand over the 50 years it has been operating, with the most recent expansion occurring in 2013.  Covering 81 acres, the plant employs around 400 Rubicon employees and 250 contractors.
